I live in Brookline with my wife, Julia Richardson Shepley and our sixteen year-old daughter. Julie is a sculptor represented by the Boston Sculptors Gallery in Boston's SOWA South End neighborhood. Our daughter attended the local Lincoln Elementary Public School from pre-K through eigth grade, where she also had the opportunity to train and perform with the PALS Children's Chorus, an extraordinary afterschool program that takes ordinary kids and provides them with extraordinary music experiences like performing at Symphony Hall with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, making professional recordings and having loads of fun.
Winter days are frequently spent skating at The Lars Anderson Park outdoor rink, and each year our family hosts an evening of skating under the stars for family, friends and all the people who have been kind enough to support my business over the years.
Our house overlooks a state-of-the-art town running track, park and athletic field, and miraculously I seem to stay fit by watching others enjoy it.
I have been involved in Town government through a number of committees and appointments. For more than a dozen years I was appointed to the Town of Brookline Human Relations & Youth Resources Commission. The commission reviews issues related to discrimination, and plans various events related to youth and diversity including Youth Awards, The Martin Luther King Jr Day Program and the Asian American Appreciation Program. As a previous town of Brookline Preservation Commission member, I was part of a group charged with the oversight responsibility to maintain the integrity of our historic districts, as well as advise petitioners about various means to accomplish renovations in a historically-sensitive fashion.
As an active parent at The Lincoln Elementary School, I co-chaired the Advisory Council of parents and teachers with the school principal. These days, I divide my volunteer efforts between community board involvement with the Brookline Mental Health Center, and the Hearts and Noses Hospital Clown Troupe, where I am also a volunteer clown providing pediatric services at Boston Medical Center. Without question, the most fun an adult can have!
